Explanation

Arjuna responds with praise. You are the supreme Brahman, the supreme abode, the supreme purifier, he says to Krishna. You are the eternal divine Person, the primal God, unborn and all-pervading. The sentence continues into the next verse, where Arjuna says that the great sages proclaim this.

Having heard Krishna's words, Arjuna now openly affirms who his friend and charioteer is. Shankara reads param dhāma as the supreme light or refuge, and pavitram as the greatest purifier. Ramanuja reads the titles as describing the Lord who is distinct from and higher than both matter and individual souls. Many readers see in this verse a turning point in Arjuna's relationship with Krishna: affection is now joined by awe, which leads to his request in Chapter 11 to see the cosmic form.
