Explanation

All the sages declare this of you, Arjuna continues, as do the divine sage Narada, Asita Devala and Vyasa. And now you yourself are telling me the same. Arjuna's faith rests on two supports: the testimony of the great seers and Krishna's own words.

Narada is the wandering devarṣi, a sage among the gods, famed for his devotion and his songs of praise. Asita Devala is usually taken as one sage, Devala of the Asita line, though some read Asita and Devala as two. Vyasa is the compiler of the Vedas and the author of the Mahabharata, in which the Gita itself appears. Commentators note the order: tradition is named first, then direct teaching, and the two agree. Shankara points out that Arjuna is confirming what the scriptures had already told him.
