Explanation
It shines through the functions of all the senses, yet is itself without senses. It is unattached, yet sustains everything. It is beyond the gunas, yet it experiences the gunas. The paradoxes point to a reality beyond ordinary logic. It is both immanent and transcendent.
The verse is built on paradoxes, a style also found in the Upanishads. Brahman makes the senses work but needs none of its own, supports all yet clings to nothing. Shankara reads the paradoxes as showing that all attributes belong to the adjuncts, while Brahman itself is pure consciousness. Ramanuja takes them as describing the Lord's real but transcendent powers, free from the limits of a material body.
