Explanation
Whatever being is born, moving or unmoving, know that it arises from the union of the field and the knower of the field, O best of the Bharatas. All life is a meeting point of matter and consciousness, of body and the spirit that knows it.
Every living thing, from a plant to a human being, is a meeting of matter and consciousness. Shankara explains this union as mutual superimposition, where the qualities of each are wrongly attributed to the other, like mistaking a rope for a snake. Ramanuja reads it as a real but separable connection between the soul and matter. The next verse shows that seeing the imperishable within this union is true vision.
Living it today
Every living thing, even a tree or an insect, carries both body and spirit. Let that make you gentler with all life.
