Explanation
The deluded disregard me when I appear in a human form, not knowing my higher nature as the great Lord of all beings. Seeing only the human form, they miss the divine reality within it. This is the error of the deluded.
Krishna addresses a natural objection: how can a man standing in a chariot be the Lord of the universe? Those who see only the human form miss the higher reality behind it. The Mahabharata itself shows figures like Shishupala and Duryodhana mocking Krishna for this reason. Shankara says the deluded see only the body. Ramanuja stresses that the Lord takes a human form out of compassion and easy accessibility, and that despising this form is the greatest error. The verse connects to the teaching on avatara in 4.6–9.
