Explanation
How much more, then, the virtuous brahmins and devoted royal sages! Having come into this passing and joyless world, give yourself to me in devotion. If even those of humble birth reach the highest goal, the virtuous surely will. So do not waste this brief life.
After saying in 9.32 that all who take refuge in him reach the highest goal, whatever their birth, Krishna adds: how much more easily those already blessed with virtue and learning. Arjuna, a royal sage himself, is urged to use his chance well. The world is called anitya and asukha, impermanent and without lasting happiness, not to condemn life but to show its brevity. Shankara says human birth is rare and should not be wasted. Ramanuja stresses the urgency: begin devotion now.
Living it today
Life is short and its pleasures pass. Do not postpone what matters most; begin your practice today, however small.
