Explanation

Just as the mighty wind, moving everywhere, always rests in space, understand that in the same way all beings rest in me. All beings move within God as wind moves within space, without ever disturbing or dividing him. Space stays untouched by the wind.

Krishna offers an image to resolve the paradox of 9.4–5. The wind blows everywhere and is always within space, yet space is never pushed, stained or disturbed by it. In the same way all beings move within God without affecting him. Shankara stresses that space is unattached and so is the Self. Ramanuja notes that the wind depends on space but does not bind it, just as souls depend on the Lord. The analogy has been loved by teachers for its simplicity: we live and move within the divine.

Living it today

However restless life feels, picture it as wind moving within a vast, calm sky. You can rest in that calm even while things move.
