About ISKCON Delhi
The ISKCON Temple in Delhi, formally Sri Sri Radha Parthasarathi Mandir, stands on Hare Krishna Hill in the East of Kailash area of South Delhi. It is dedicated to Radha and Krishna, worshipped here as Radha Parthasarathi, with Krishna as Arjuna's charioteer. Run by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), it is one of the largest temple complexes in Delhi. The joyful kirtan, beautifully dressed deities and spotless prasadam make it a favourite for families and visitors from around the world.
ISKCON was founded in 1966 by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who spread the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and devotion to Krishna worldwide. The Delhi temple was designed by architect Achyut Kanvinde and inaugurated in 1998 by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 2019 Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a giant printed Bhagavad Gita, one of the largest sacred books in the world, at the temple. The temple has since become a major centre for spiritual programmes, festivals and youth activities in Delhi.
The temple has tall red sandstone shikharas and a large prayer hall with altars for Radha Parthasarathi, Sita-Rama-Lakshmana-Hanuman and Gaura-Nitai. Paintings by ISKCON artists decorate the walls and ceilings. The complex also houses the Vedic Expo with multimedia and robotic shows on the Ramayana and Mahabharata, the giant Gita, a bookstore and restaurants serving vegetarian food.
