About Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir

Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir is the grand temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, built at the site revered by Hindus as the birthplace of Lord Rama. The presiding deity is Ram Lalla, Lord Rama in the form of a five-year-old child. Ayodhya is one of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) of Hinduism, and the temple has quickly become one of the most visited pilgrimage places in India. Devotees from across the world come to see the serene black-stone idol and the richly carved halls of this modern masterpiece.

Ayodhya is described in the Ramayana as the capital of King Dasharatha and the birthplace of Rama. The site was the subject of a long dispute, which the Supreme Court of India settled in November 2019, allowing a temple to be built under the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust. Construction began in 2020, and the Pran Pratishtha (consecration) of the new Ram Lalla idol, carved by sculptor Arun Yogiraj, took place on 22 January 2024. Work on the wider complex continued after the consecration.

The temple is built in the traditional Nagara style using pink sandstone from Rajasthan, without steel in its main structure. It rises over three storeys, with hundreds of carved pillars, several mandapas (halls) and intricate sculptures of deities and scenes from the Ramayana. The sanctum on the ground floor holds the Ram Lalla idol. The surrounding complex includes landscaped grounds, pilgrim facilities and smaller shrines.
