Explanation

That tremendous sound, echoing through sky and earth, tore the hearts of Dhritarashtra's sons.

The Kaurava conches made a great noise; the Pandava conches struck fear into the hearts of the other side. Commentators read the difference as moral rather than physical: those who know they are in the wrong are shaken more deeply. Sanjaya, reporting to the blind king, does not soften the news that his sons were afraid.

भावार्थ

उस भयंकर घोष ने आकाश और पृथ्वी को गुँजाते हुए धृतराष्ट्र के पुत्रों के हृदय विदीर्ण कर दिए।

Living it today

A clear conscience is a quiet strength. When we act wrongly, even small things can shake us.
