Explanation
Duryodhana says to Drona: Look, teacher, at this mighty army of the sons of Pandu, arrayed by the son of Drupada, your own clever pupil. The son of Drupada is Dhrishtadyumna, commander of the Pandava forces.
The words carry a sting. Dhrishtadyumna was born from Drupada's sacrificial fire for the very purpose of killing Drona, Drupada's old rival, and yet Drona had taught him the art of war. By calling him 'your pupil', Duryodhana hints that Drona's generosity has armed the enemy and nudges him to fight without softness. Commentators read the verse as a study in manipulation: praise and reproach mixed together to stir up another person.
