Explanation
And there are many other heroes ready to lay down their lives for my sake, armed with many kinds of weapons and all of them experienced in war.
The words 'for my sake' (madarthe) are revealing. Duryodhana sees the whole army as existing for him. Commentators contrast this with the Pandava side, where the war is framed as a struggle for what is right. Some also read tyakta-jīvitāḥ with an unintended irony: these warriors have, in effect, already given up their lives, since most of them will die in the battle.
Living it today
When we start seeing others as existing for our sake, our judgement is already clouded. Ask what others are giving up for your goals.
