Explanation
Out of compassion for these devotees, Krishna says, he himself, dwelling within their hearts, destroys the darkness born of ignorance with the shining lamp of knowledge. The devotee's love is met by the Lord's grace, which works from the inside, lighting the way to understanding.
This completes the four verses 10.8 to 10.11. Shankara takes ātma-bhāva-sthaḥ as the Lord abiding in the inner faculty of the devotee, and describes the lamp as discriminative knowledge fed by the oil of devotion and protected from the winds of distraction. Ramanuja reads the verse as the Lord, out of pure compassion, making himself the object of their knowledge. The image of a lamp suggests that ignorance is not destroyed by force but simply vanishes once light appears.
