Explanation

Among the Adityas, Krishna says, I am Vishnu; among lights, I am the radiant sun. Among the Maruts I am Marici, and among the stars I am the moon. With this verse the list of vibhūtis begins: in each class, Krishna names the most excellent member as his special manifestation.

The Adityas are the twelve sons of Aditi, solar deities of the Vedas; Vishnu is one of them, identified in the Puranas with Vamana, the dwarf incarnation. Ravi is the sun, the brightest of all lights. The Maruts are the storm gods, companions of Indra, traditionally forty-nine in number; Marici here is their chief, not the sage of the same name. The nakṣatras are the twenty-seven lunar mansions, and the moon, śaśī, moves among them as their lord. Shankara and Ramanuja take each item simply as the foremost of its class.

Living it today

When you watch the sun or moon, let it remind you of the light behind all lights.
