Explanation
There is no end to my divine glories, O scorcher of foes, Krishna says. What I have told you is only a brief indication of their vastness. The long list just given is a sample, offered to point the mind in the right direction, not a complete catalogue.
This verse echoes verse 19, where Krishna promised to name only the chief manifestations because there is no end to his extent. Shankara reads uddeśataḥ as by way of example, a few selected instances from an infinite range. Ramanuja similarly says that only a portion has been told. Parantapa, scorcher of enemies, is an epithet of Arjuna as a warrior. The verse prepares for the summary key of verse 41 and the sweeping statement of verse 42 that the whole universe rests on a single fraction of the Divine.
