Explanation

Hosts of gods are entering into you; some, afraid, praise you with folded hands. Bands of great sages and perfected beings, crying 'may all be well', sing your praises with abundant hymns. Arjuna sees all of heaven responding to the vision with fear and worship.

Even the gods are shown entering the Lord, as all things return to their source. The response divides: some praise in fear, while the great rishis and siddhas, who understand, sing hymns and pray 'svasti', for the welfare of the world. Commentators read this as a picture of the right response to the Divine's power: not panic but prayer for the good of all. Shankara takes the sages' blessing as their wish that the coming destruction lead to the world's welfare.

Living it today

When fear comes, turn it into a prayer for the good of all; 'may all be well' is a strong response to uncertainty.
