Explanation

They are rushing into your fearsome mouths with their terrible tusks; some are seen caught between your teeth, their heads crushed to powder. Arjuna sees the great warriors of both armies being swallowed by the Lord's devouring form. It is a terrible picture of the coming war and of death itself.

This is the starkest image in the Gita. Continuing the sentence from 11.26, it shows the coming slaughter of Kurukshetra as already happening within the cosmic form. Commentators explain that what Arjuna sees is the working of time and karma, which will end these lives whatever he does. The verse is not a celebration of violence but a vision of mortality on a cosmic scale; in 11.32 Krishna names himself as Time, the destroyer of worlds.
