Explanation

But by undivided devotion, O Arjuna, I can be known in this way, seen in truth, and entered into, O scorcher of foes. After saying what cannot reveal him, Krishna names the one thing that can: exclusive, loving devotion. Love, not mere effort, is what brings the Divine within reach.

This is the climax of the chapter. 'Ananya bhakti', devotion that has no other object, is the key that study and ritual alone cannot provide. The three verbs mark stages: to know (jnatum), to see (drashtum) and to enter (praveshtum) — understanding, direct experience and union. Shankara reads 'entering' as liberation in Brahman; Ramanuja reads it as attaining the Lord in loving communion. Many teachers regard this verse, with 11.55, as the essence of the whole chapter.

Living it today

Give something your whole heart; undivided love opens doors that cleverness and effort alone cannot.
