Explanation

Know that rajas is of the nature of passion and springs from craving and attachment. It binds the embodied self, O son of Kunti, through attachment to action. It keeps a person always busy, always wanting the next thing. Rajas drives action through desire.

Rajas is energy, ambition and restlessness. It is the drive behind getting things done, but also behind endless wanting. Its particular chain is attachment to action itself, the feeling that one must always be busy and achieving. Shankara explains that it makes the self feel I am doing this, I want that. Commentators note that rajas is not evil, but when uncontrolled it leads to stress and greed.
