Explanation
This I have gained today; this desire I shall fulfil next. This wealth is mine, and this too will be mine in future. Krishna now speaks in the voice of the acquisitive person, letting Arjuna hear the restless inner monologue of someone whose mind runs endlessly from one gain to the next.
Verses 16.13–15 form a vivid sequence of first-person boasts, a rare dramatic device in the Gita. Commentators note how the thoughts move across past, present and future: what was got today, what is held now, what is still to come. No moment is ever enough. Ramanuja observes that such a person attributes every gain to his own effort alone, forgetting the role of fate and the divine, which prepares the claim 'I am the lord' in the next verse.
भावार्थ
आज मैंने यह पा लिया है, अब यह मनोरथ पूरा करूँगा। यह धन मेरे पास है और आगे यह भी मेरा हो जाएगा — ऐसे विचारों में वे डूबे रहते हैं।
Living it today
Listen to your own inner voice for a day. If it keeps counting what you have and what you want next, try pausing to appreciate what is already here.
