About Chapter 16 — Daivasura Sampad Vibhaga Yoga
In this chapter Krishna sets out two contrasting kinds of human nature. He first lists the divine qualities, such as fearlessness, purity of heart, self-control, truthfulness, compassion, humility and forgiveness, and explains that these lead to freedom. He then describes the demoniac nature in detail: hypocrisy, arrogance, anger and harshness, a denial of any moral order in the world, endless craving, and the pride of wealth and power. Such people sink lower birth after birth. Krishna names desire, anger and greed as the three gates to self-ruin and urges Arjuna to abandon them, and he closes by asking him to take the scriptures as his guide in deciding what should and should not be done.
