About Chapter 8 — Akshara Brahma Yoga
Arjuna asks Krishna to explain the terms used at the end of the previous chapter: Brahman, the inner self, action, the material, the divine, the sacrificial principle, and how He is known at the time of death. Krishna answers briefly and teaches that whatever one remembers at the moment of leaving the body, that one attains. Therefore Arjuna should remember Him at all times while doing his duty. Krishna describes how a yogi departs while focusing the breath and chanting Om, explains the vast cosmic days and nights of Brahma in which worlds appear and dissolve, and speaks of the unmanifest, eternal abode from which there is no return. Finally, describing the paths of light and darkness, He declares that the knowing yogi transcends all ritual rewards.
