Explanation

No yogi who knows these two paths, O Partha, is ever confused. Therefore, Arjuna, be steadfast in yoga at all times. Knowing where each path leads, the wise are not drawn to lesser goals. So live in yoga always, not only at the end.

This is the practical conclusion of the discussion of death. Knowing that action for reward leads back into the cycle while knowledge and devotion lead beyond, the yogi is not tempted by lesser goals. Shankara says such a person no longer seeks heaven through rituals. Ramanuja adds that the devotee meditates on the bright path as part of daily remembrance. Instead of worrying about the moment of death, Arjuna is told to live in yoga always, echoing 8.7: remember me at all times, and fight.

Living it today

Instead of saving spirituality for special occasions, bring a little steadiness and remembrance into every hour of the ordinary day.
