Explanation
The true relinquisher neither dislikes disagreeable work nor clings to agreeable work. Filled with sattva, clear-minded and with doubts cut away, such a person does what is to be done without picking and choosing by personal taste. Pleasant or unpleasant, the work is simply done well.
Krishna now describes the character of the sattvic tyagi. Shankara takes akuśala as work that leads to further births and kuśala as work that leads toward liberation, saying the wise one is attached to neither. Ramanuja reads the terms more simply as unpleasant and pleasant tasks. Both agree that freedom from likes and dislikes, rāga and dveṣa, is the sign of a settled mind, a theme that runs from 2.56 onward.
