Explanation
Learn from me briefly, O son of Kunti, how one who has gained this perfection then attains Brahman — the supreme culmination of knowledge. Krishna is about to describe, step by step, the qualities and practices of the seeker in whom purified action ripens into realisation.
This verse opens a short summary (18.51-53) of the whole spiritual path. Shankara sees it as describing the steadiness in self-knowledge (jñāna-niṣṭhā) that follows the purification gained through karma-yoga. Ramanuja reads 'attaining Brahman' as realising the true nature of the individual self, which then leads on to supreme devotion (18.54). The word samāsena, in brief, signals that Krishna is gathering up teachings spread through earlier chapters, especially chapters 2, 5 and 6.
