Explanation
One who has become one with Brahman, serene in spirit, neither grieves over what is lost nor craves what is not yet gained. Seeing all beings with an equal eye, such a person gains supreme devotion to me. Realisation does not end in dryness but blossoms into love.
Here the path of knowledge flows into devotion. Shankara identifies this parā bhakti with the knowledge of the jñānī, the fourth and dearest kind of devotee in 7.17-18. Ramanuja reads it the other way round: realising the self is a stage that ripens into loving devotion to the Lord, which is the true goal. Madhva too treats bhakti as the highest end. Readers across traditions agree on the signs: inner serenity, freedom from grief and craving, and an equal regard for all beings.
