Explanation

All actions are carried out by the gunas, the qualities of nature. But one whose mind is deluded by ego thinks, "I am the doer."

The Gita describes three gunas — sattva (clarity), rajas (activity) and tamas (inertia) — that move body and mind. Seeing them as the real actors loosens pride in success and despair in failure, and is a step towards acting without attachment.

Living it today

After a success, remember the many causes that came together — health, teachers, help, timing. It keeps both pride and anxiety in check.
