Explanation

Those whose minds are established in equality have conquered the round of birth even here, in this life. Brahman is flawless and the same in all; therefore they are established in Brahman. Equal vision is itself a sign of liberation.

This follows the equal vision of 5.18. Shankara reads it as liberation while living, jīvan-mukti: the mind that sees sameness everywhere already rests in Brahman, which is untouched by the faults of the bodies it dwells in. Ramanuja reads Brahman here as the pure self, equal in all beings because the self's nature is the same in every body. The phrase even here is important; the Gita does not postpone freedom to an afterlife.
