Explanation

Arjuna said: O Madhusudana, this yoga of equanimity that you have taught, I do not see how it can last steadily, because of the restlessness of the mind. Arjuna admires the teaching but doubts it can be lived for long.

Arjuna has listened to the whole teaching on meditation and equal vision, and now voices the doubt every practitioner feels. The ideal is beautiful, but can it be sustained? His honesty is valued by commentators: he does not pretend to understand more than he does. The name Madhusudana, slayer of the demon Madhu, may hint that if Krishna could defeat a demon, he can also help conquer the mind. The next verse spells out Arjuna's complaint in vivid terms.

Living it today

It is fine to admit that your mind is restless. Naming the difficulty honestly is where real practice begins.
