Explanation

Or else he is born into a family of wise yogis itself. A birth like this is even harder to obtain in this world. Growing up among people who live a spiritual life is a rare blessing, because it lets the seeker take up the path again early and naturally.

This is the second possibility for the unfinished seeker. Rather than going to the heavenly worlds first, the more advanced seeker is reborn directly among wise yogis, where spiritual practice is part of daily life from childhood. Shankara notes that such a family may be poor, in contrast with the prosperous home of 6.41, yet it is the rarer and better birth because it leads more directly to the goal. The verse values spiritual surroundings above material comfort.

Living it today

Spend time with people who practise what they believe. A wise, sincere company can be worth more than any comfort.
