Explanation

Krishna says: with your mind fixed on me, practising yoga and taking refuge in me, hear how you will know me completely and without doubt, O Partha. He promises a full knowledge of the Divine, not partial or speculative. It begins with attention and refuge.

Chapter 7 opens the middle section of the Gita, often seen as centred on the Divine and devotion. Having ended chapter 6 by praising the yogi devoted to him, Krishna now explains who he is. Shankara reads samagram as knowing the Lord with all his powers and attributes. Ramanuja sees the chapter as teaching the Lord's nature so that devotion can rest on right understanding. Madhva stresses that full knowledge of the Lord's supremacy is the basis of liberation.
