Explanation
Those who know me along with the material aspect, the divine aspect and the aspect of sacrifice, with steadfast minds, know me even at the time of death. Their knowledge holds firm even in the final moment. What is practised in life is present at its end.
The terms adhibhūta, adhidaiva and adhiyajña are explained in 8.4: the perishable world, the cosmic person, and the Lord dwelling in the body as the receiver of sacrifice. Shankara says such knowers retain awareness of the Lord even at death, which ensures liberation. Ramanuja links it to the practice of remembrance, which carries through to the end. This verse closes chapter 7 and leads naturally into chapter 8, which deals with the moment of death and what follows.
