Explanation

I am the father of this world, its mother, its sustainer and its grandsire. I am what is to be known, the purifier, the syllable Om, and also the Rig, Sama and Yajur Vedas. God is the source, the sustainer and the sacred knowledge of the world.

Krishna describes himself in the most intimate family terms, as father, mother and grandparent, as well as in terms of sacred knowledge. Shankara explains that the Lord is father and mother as the source of creation and grandsire as the source even of Brahma. Ramanuja emphasises the loving relationships these words express. The verse is the basis of the familiar prayer image of God as tvam eva mata cha pita tvameva, mother and father both. Om and the three Vedas show that all sacred knowledge points back to God.

भावार्थ
