Explanation
At the end of a cosmic age, O son of Kunti, all beings pass into my own nature. At the beginning of the next age, I send them forth again. Creation and dissolution are both within God's own nature and control.
This repeats the cosmic rhythm of 8.18–19, but now from God's side: it is Krishna's own prakriti, his nature or power, into which beings dissolve and from which he releases them. A kalpa is a day of Brahma. Shankara sees prakriti here as the Lord's power of maya, made of the three gunas. Ramanuja calls it the Lord's body, in its subtle state during dissolution and gross state during creation. Both readings stress that the cycles of the universe are within God's control.
Living it today
Endings are not final, and beginnings come again. Trust the larger rhythm when one season of life closes.
