About Mahavir Mandir Patna

Mahavir Mandir is the most popular Hanuman temple in Bihar, standing right outside Patna Junction railway station in the heart of the city. It is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, worshipped here as Mahavir, and is famous for its two Hanuman idols placed side by side. The temple is among the most visited and highest-earning temples in North India. Devotees especially throng it on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and its Naivedyam laddoo is one of the best-known temple prasads in eastern India.

A Hanuman shrine has stood at this spot for a long time, and it is said to date back to at least the late 19th or early 20th century. The present temple was rebuilt in the 1980s under the Mahavir Mandir Trust, guided for decades by former IPS officer Acharya Kishore Kunal. The trust uses temple offerings for public service, running hospitals such as the Mahavir Cancer Sansthan and other charitable institutions in Patna. Legend and local devotion hold that prayers here are answered, which draws pilgrims from across Bihar and beyond.

The modern temple is built of marble with a tall white shikhara visible from the station area. Inside, the twin Hanuman idols are the focus, often described as one for protecting the good and one for destroying evil. The temple also has shrines to Lord Rama and other deities, and a counter selling the Naivedyam laddoo, prepared in the style of South Indian temple sweets.
