Explanation
Arjuna said: it is fitting, O Hrishikesha, that the world rejoices and delights in your glory; the demons flee in fear in every direction, and all the hosts of perfected beings bow to you. Arjuna begins his second hymn of praise.
The opening word 'sthane', rightly, sets the tone: every reaction to the Lord is appropriate to its nature. The good rejoice and are drawn to him in love, the forces of evil flee, the wise bow down. Commentators see here the same Lord evoking different responses according to the heart of the one who meets him. In many traditions this verse is recited as a protective prayer (rakshoghna), because it speaks of evil forces fleeing before the Lord's name.
