Explanation
Sanjaya said: having spoken thus to Arjuna, Vasudeva showed his own form once more; and, taking again his gentle form, the great-souled one consoled the frightened Arjuna. The vision ends and Krishna appears once more as Arjuna knew him. The terrifying vision gives way to the familiar, gentle presence of his friend.
'His own form' (svakam rupam) is read in two ways. Some commentators take it as the four-armed form Arjuna asked for, after which Krishna resumed his human appearance ('becoming gentle again'); others see a single return to his familiar form. In either reading, the stress falls on consolation: the Lord does not simply withdraw the vision, he reassures his friend. The word saumya, gentle or pleasing like the moon, contrasts with the ugra, fierce, form of the earlier verses.

When someone is frightened, show them your gentle side; reassurance matters as much as truth.
