Explanation

Behold now, O Gudakesha, the entire universe, with all that moves and does not move, gathered in one place here in my body — and whatever else you wish to see. The whole cosmos is shown as resting within the Lord's form.

Gudakesha, 'conqueror of sleep', is an epithet of Arjuna, suggesting the alertness he needs for this vision. The idea of the universe standing in one place within God recalls the Vedic Purusha Sukta, where the cosmic Person contains all worlds. Shankara links the words 'whatever else you wish to see' to Arjuna's doubt in 2.6 about which side would win; that answer too appears in the vision (11.26 to 11.32).

Living it today

Remember that you are part of one connected whole; it changes how you treat the world around you.
