Explanation
By the grace of Vyasa I have heard this supreme and secret yoga directly from Krishna, the Lord of yoga, as he himself declared it. Sanjaya stresses that his account is first-hand: he heard the words from Krishna himself, through the vision Vyasa gave him.
In the Mahabharata, Vyasa granted Sanjaya divine sight so that he could see and hear everything on the battlefield and report it to Dhritarashtra. Sanjaya gratefully acknowledges this gift: his account comes from direct hearing, not hearsay. Shankara and others take the verse as affirming the authenticity of the teaching. The title Yogeśvara, Lord of yoga, also used in 11.4 and 11.9, recalls the cosmic vision of chapter 11.
