Explanation

Nourish the gods with this sacrifice, and may the gods nourish you. Nourishing one another, you will attain the highest good.

Prajapati's words continue. The devas here are the powers behind nature, such as rain and sun; humans honour them, and they sustain human life in return. The key word is 'parasparam', mutually. Shankara reads the highest good as either heaven or, through purification, liberation. Modern readers such as Vinoba and many ecologists see a principle of reciprocity with nature and society, where taking without giving breaks the cycle.
