Explanation
Seers whose impurities are worn away, whose doubts are cut through, who are self-controlled and who delight in the welfare of all beings, attain the peace of Brahman. Liberation here goes hand in hand with care for others. Their peace overflows into goodwill toward everyone.
The phrase sarva-bhūta-hite ratāḥ, delighting in the good of all beings, recurs in 12.4 and is one of the Gita's best-known ideals. Shankara includes it among the marks of the realised sage, whose compassion flows naturally. Ramanuja emphasises that such service is part of the discipline leading to self-realisation. Gandhi and Vivekananda both drew on this phrase to argue that spiritual life must express itself in work for others. The verse joins inner purity with outward goodwill.
