Explanation
Know me, O Partha, as the eternal seed of all beings. I am the intelligence of the intelligent and the splendour of the splendid. Whatever excellence a person has comes from the Divine source. The source is never exhausted by what it produces.
The seed image suggests that the Lord is the source from which all beings grow, yet is not used up in producing them. Shankara reads the eternal seed as the cause of all beings, the one source of all. Ramanuja sees it as the Lord being the unchanging cause of the varied world. The second half warns against pride: intelligence and brilliance are not personal property but expressions of the Divine. Chapter 10 develops this theme of the Lord's glories at length.
Living it today
When you admire someone's brilliance or your own, see it as a gift flowing through them, which makes it easier to be humble and generous.
