Explanation

But those people of virtuous deeds, whose sin has come to an end, are freed from the delusion of opposites. Firm in their resolve, they worship me. Good actions clear the way for steady devotion. Purity of conduct makes devotion firm.

This verse balances 7.27, showing a way out of delusion. Shankara explains that good deeds purify the mind and so end the sin that sustains delusion, allowing steady worship. Ramanuja reads it as people whose accumulated merit has removed the obstacles to devotion. Dṛḍha-vrata, firm in vows, suggests a disciplined, committed devotion rather than occasional practice. The verse links good conduct and devotion as mutually supporting.

Living it today

Small acts of honesty and kindness clear the mind; over time they make steady prayer or meditation much easier.
