Explanation
Those who take refuge in me and strive for freedom from old age and death come to know Brahman, the whole of the inner self, and all of action. Their effort, supported by refuge in the Divine, leads to complete understanding.
The final two verses introduce technical terms, Brahman, adhyātma, karma, adhibhūta, adhidaiva and adhiyajña, which Arjuna asks about at the start of chapter 8. Shankara reads the verse as the seekers of liberation coming to know Brahman as the totality. Ramanuja sees a distinct group of seekers who aim at the pure self, freed from old age and death, rather than at the Lord in his fullness. Madhva reads all terms as aspects of the Lord's governance.
