Explanation
With a mind trained by the discipline of regular practice, a mind that does not wander towards anything else, one who constantly meditates on the supreme, radiant Person reaches him, O Partha. Remembrance is not a sudden feat but the fruit of steady training.
Having said in 8.7 that Arjuna should remember him at all times while fighting, Krishna explains how such remembrance becomes possible: through abhyasa, steady repeated practice, echoing his advice in 6.35 that the restless mind is mastered by practice and detachment. Shankara stresses the single-pointed attention of meditation. Ramanuja links the practice to daily worship and contemplation sustained throughout life. Gandhi took it as the purpose of daily prayer and repetition of God's name, which train the mind until remembrance becomes natural.
