Explanation
Even a person who simply listens with faith and without fault-finding becomes free from sin and reaches the auspicious worlds of those who have done good deeds. The benefit of the Gita is not reserved for scholars; open-hearted listening is enough to begin.
The blessings now extend to the simplest participant: one who only hears. The two conditions are faith (śraddhā) and freedom from envy or cavil (anasūyā). Shankara reads 'freed' as freed from sin, gaining the higher worlds rather than final liberation. Ramanuja reads it similarly. The verse stands behind the custom of hearing the Gita read aloud in homes and temples, where many listeners cannot read Sanskrit themselves.
