What the address covered

Per Shri Guruji Samagra, the Shastrapujan address argued that the character of those running a system matters more than whether it is a democracy or a dictatorship. Golwalkar dismissed press reports that the Sarsanghchalak was close to death and that a succession struggle was under way. He pointed to splits in the Congress, socialist and communist parties as signs of selfishness. In the Vijayadashami address he deplored growing division in society and lack of patriotism, criticised those who look to Russia or China, and stressed every citizen's responsibility for the nation.

Context

Addressed rumours about his health and succession after the 1969 Congress split.
