On Vijayadashami 1966, M. S. Golwalkar gave the annual address at the gathering in Nagpur, where the chief guest was Ratanlal Joshi. This page summarises what was reported about it.

The day

  • Date: 23 October 1966 — the calendar date of Vijayadashami; our sources do not record the exact day of the gathering
  • Place: Nagpur
  • Address by: M. S. Golwalkar
  • Chief guest: Ratanlal Joshi

What the address covered

Golwalkar (per the Samagra summary) recalled the unity of the 1965 war and said, as he had feared, that the military gains had been lost through diplomacy. He criticised the Maharashtra–Karnataka border dispute and inter-state quarrels over Krishna–Godavari waters. He reported that infiltrators from Pakistan were in Manipur and Assam and that Pakistani bases had been built on the eastern border, which he said showed China–Pakistan collusion. He also deplored rioting and looting at home. In the Shastrapujan address he criticised foreign mediators in the Naga talks and restrictions on the army, and raised cow slaughter.

Context

Came a few weeks before the November 1966 cow-protection agitation in Delhi. The Vijayadashami summary does not mention that agitation.
