On Vijayadashami 1967, M. S. Golwalkar gave the annual address at the gathering in Nagpur, where the chief guest was Swami Satyamitranand Giri. This page summarises what was reported about it.
The day
- Date: 12 October 1967 — the calendar date of Vijayadashami; our sources do not record the exact day of the gathering
- Place: Nagpur
- Address by: M. S. Golwalkar
- Chief guest: Swami Satyamitranand Giri (Shankaracharya, Bhanpura Peeth)
What the address covered
According to Shri Guruji Samagra, Golwalkar pointed to Chinese shelling on the Sikkim border and unrest on the Kashmir ceasefire line as warnings, and said Indian communists sympathised with China. He demanded the expulsion of infiltrators from East Pakistan into Assam, and also of those who shelter them. He criticised smuggling, cow slaughter for beef exports, strikes and student unrest, and the decline of educational standards. He contrasted Indian families' reluctance to let young men become full-time pracharaks with Western families' support for missionaries.
Context
Speech followed the 1967 Nathu La clashes, described in the text as shelling of Sikkim.
