On Vijayadashami 1940, M. S. Golwalkar gave the annual address at the gathering in Nagpur. This page summarises what was reported about it.
The day
- Date: 10 October 1940 — the calendar date of Vijayadashami; our sources do not record the exact day of the gathering
- Place: Nagpur
- Address by: M. S. Golwalkar
What the address covered
This was Golwalkar's first Vijayadashami as Sarsanghchalak after Hedgewar's death in June. According to the summary in the Shri Guruji Samagra, he said a recent government notification aimed at bodies giving training had stopped the customary simollanghan programme that year. He called this an unjust blow, said no power could stop the Sangh, and urged Hindus outside it to oppose such measures. Goyal, citing a 1943 Home Department note, and Palkar both record the 1940 ban on RSS uniforms, drill and marches. In his Shastra Puja talk Golwalkar blamed Hindu decline on a lack of collective life.
Context
Route march (simollanghan) not held because of the 1940 wartime ban on uniforms and drill.
